Approaching Adamas
the port and tourist hub of Milos. Adamas was founded in 1835 by refugees from Sfakia, who
moved from the island of Crete, after the failure of the rebellion against
the Ottomans. Originally built on a hill, it as recently sprawled along
the coast. It has two reasonable beaches, many hotels, restaurants
and other tourist
facilities.
Looking west across the Milos Harbour with
Adamas in the foreground. A ferry can be seen at the port.
The mountains of Profitis Illias (732m) and Chondro Vouno (635m)
dominate the western side of the island.
