The South coast of Milos

Sea Kayak MILOS

Agia Kiriaki beach

Famous for its fine sand and white quartz pebbles that occur along the waters edge. Where do the pebbles come from? Metamorphic rocks, exposed in the headland at the end of the beach, are composed of mainly of mica, with about 10% quartz veins.  As the rocks are eroded, the more abundant, but softer, mica breaks down easily to form fine sand while the harder quartz remains as pebbles.

The area behind the beach is an archaeological site - more info.
