A group of three small islands, less than 1km off the north coast.  The name means “sea-gull islands”, so called because of the large seagull colony, active in the spring months.  The islands are composed entirely of vertical columns of volcanic rock, known as columnar jointed basalt.  Each column is a polygonal prism, formed by the contraction of volcanic lava during cooling.
