The striking cliffs of firlingos bay are composed of white Kaolin clay with various concentrations of red iron-oxides.

In the cliffs at the end of the beach are a number of disused sulphur mines.  Many of the adits are still accessible and have spectacular examples of native sulphur in-situ.
