Adamas is the capital and main port. It is a seaside village in a sheltered corner of the harbor. Adamas was founded in 1835 by refugees from Sfakia who moved from the island of Crete after the failure of the rebellion against the Ottomans. Adamas has some reasonable beaches and many tourist facilities - hotels restaurants, banks souvenir shops etc.
