The area behind the beach is an archaeological site;   Numerous amphorae, stone walls and broken pottery are exposed in eroding cliffs and gullies behind the beach.  It is thought to be the remains of a Roman industrial site, the purpose of which was to utilise geothermal heat to process minerals.
