The interplay of smooth white rocks, inlets, cliffs, sea caves and an
island, create a unique
seaside playground . The name Sarakiniko, means "place of
Pirates", as legend has it that the caves were once used as
smugglers' hideaway's. The rocks are composed of soft volcanic ash are among the
oldest volcanic products on Milos. The volcanic ash erupted from a
nearby volcano and then was deposited in
the sea, settling to the bottom to form layers. This is
evidenced by the presence of numerous shell fossils that can be easily found. |
